Behind These Bars
By Randy Miller

I crept into your dreams last night,
but you never knew I was there.
I kissed your eyes, your nose, your lips,
and ran my fingers through your hair.
So beautiful you were just lying there,
as still as the morning dew.
Although you didn’t know it,
I laid down next to you.
As I laid there next to you,
night slowly turned to dawn.
It was then you turned on your side,
and then began to yawn.
I rose to leave you lying there,
reaching for the door.
A tear rolled down your cheek,
and softly hit the floor.
So tonight when you close your eyes,
and drift off towards the stars.
I hope you can feel me next to you,
even though I’m behind these bars.
