Sunday Musical Interlude: Long John
I’ve written about chain gangs before. One of the legacies of chain gangs are prison work songs. These songs were often the precursors of what we have come to know as the “blues.” One of the most famous of these prison work songs is “Long John.” This song and many others were recorded by ethnomusicologists John and Alan Lomax.
